ECFMG|FAIMER is seeking a Principal System Engineer in the Philadelphia, PA office. 

The Principal System Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing enterprise infrastructure and platforms required for cloud computing, analyzing system requirements, and ensuring systems are securely integrated with current applications.  This role serves as a lead and should be able to oversee and supervise daily activities of junior-mid level resources including the configuration and operations of a broad range of systems.  This role is expected to proactively identify needs and provide technology guidance to reach strategic business & technology decisions.

A Principal System Engineer has a demonstrated ability to apply analysis and procedural techniques to determine needs for the implementation of hardware, software and related components. This role provides direction in evaluating and recommending the use of new technologies, assisting upper management in identifying potential business opportunities by gathering requirements, conducting validation assessments, and serving as a liaison between IS team resources, management and business operations. The Principal System Engineer takes the lead in coordinating with team members inside and outside of the organization to support projects, planning, and policy issues, developing the IS infrastructure architecture framework, along with associated performance and maintenance standards. The Principal System Engineer performs a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation and training tasks to ensure the environment is optimized to meet company and user needs.


  1. Expert knowledge in wide range of technologies including hybrid environments, virtualization, cloud architecture and design.
  2. Solid experience and knowledge of Data Center environments and tiering.
  3. Ability to effectively engage with security and network engineers in support of day-to-day operations and enterprise transformations.
  4. Research, understand and implement new software technologies in an enterprise environment.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in scripting in various languages.
  6. Expert knowledge of establishing hyper-converged infrastructure frameworks.
  7. Extensive industry practice in optimization of Microsoft technologies such as Microsoft Windows Servers, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft O365, Microsoft Azure.
  8. Proven track record of delivering enterprise solutions to achieve business operational objectives.
  9. Expertise in the defining of IS standards, policies, and procedures.
  10. Positive customer service attitude while interacting with internal and external contacts.
  11. Detail-oriented, flexible, and can adjust to changes in scope and timelines.
  12. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  1. Operations
    1. Lead the IS Operations department in partnership with Information Security on the design and implementation of disaster recovery plans for servers, databases, and software applications.
    2. Lead the management and administration of all operating systems and corresponding hardware/software.
    3. Server Infrastructure: Deployment, Maintenance (health monitoring and reporting), Decommissioning.
    4. Storage Infrastructure: configuration, monitoring and reporting services.
    5. Data Backup and Disaster Recovery planning and execution.
    6. IS Security and Networking policy enforcement and support.
    7. Maintain technology software/hardware licensing, upgrades and support services.
  2. Processes
    1. Develop standard (IS) operating procedures in support of the business.
    2. Define and document processes reflective of daily operational activities.
    3. Document and maintain configuration diagrams, workflows, support charts, etc.
    4. Maintain accurate repositories and inventories of assets.
  3. Projects
    1. Participate in enterprise-wide assignments, management task forces and committees.
    2. Support all Infrastructure Projects effectively and in a timely manner.
    3. Work on projects/issues of high complexity that require in-depth knowledge across multiple technical areas and business segments.
    4. Assist in planning and execution of special projects as assigned.
  4. General Support
    1. Participate in enterprise on-call rotation.
    2. Maintain level of knowledge of areas of responsibility through ongoing training and education.
    3. Understand and comply with all enterprise and IS departmental information security policies, procedures, and standards.
    4. Participates and provides feedback to improve ECFMG business and IS processes including but not limited to, workflow, project management, time accounts, and employee reviews.
    5. Support the integration of information security in development, design, and implementation of ECFMG resources that process, transmit, or store ECFMG information.
    6. Other duties as assigned.
  5. Leadership
    1. Serve as an escalation point for IS Operations issues in lieu of management participation.
    2. MentorTrain other team members on industry standards and best practices.
    3. Lead teams that plan, forecast and implement new technologies of high complexity.
    4. Strongly influence and align proposed project work to that of IS Operations goals.
    5. Partner closely with IS Operations Manager and Technology Services Director in the development of multi-year roadmaps for current and future technical services in support of business vision and strategy.


  • 8-10 years in technology services serving as a Sr. Systems Administrator, Sr. Systems Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure Administrator or Architect, or similar role with senior experience.
  • Proficiency in each of the following areas: 
    1. Enterprise level virtualization architecture and design. 
    2. Experience with Cisco or EMC storage platforms.  
    3. Backup and Recovery (Avamar a plus or similar industry tools). 
    4. Demonstrated experience leading enterprise physical to virtual systems migrations. 
    5. Active Directory engineering and Group Policy administration w/ strong working knowledge of AD zone types as well as multi forest design and communications.
  1. Solid experience with enterprise network architecture concepts (LAN, WAN, MPLS, EPL, etc....)
  2. Strong understanding of common networking concepts DNS, TCP/IP, DHCP, OSI model.
  3. Senior level knowledge and understanding of wide range of Cloud technologies and integration into hybrid environments including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS products such as AWS, Salesforce, Azure, Rackspace, Google Engine, Cloud Foundry, and others.
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, management, customers and support personnel.
  5. Strong ability to analyze and solve complex problems using analytical and creative problem-solving skills for design, creation, and testing of networks.
  6. Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  7. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.


  1. Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. The equivalent in related work experience and self-study may be substituted.
  2. Professional certifications spanning multiple disciplines such as Microsoft MCSE, Cloud Solutions Architecture (Azure, AWS, etc..), Red Hat, Oracle, VMWare, or similar are a plus.
