The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) is a private nonprofit organization committed to promoting excellence in international medical education.

Through its program of certification, ECFMG evaluates the qualifications of graduates of international medical schools who seek entry into residency or fellowship programs in the United States. International medical graduates who wish to enter such programs must be certified by ECFMG. The current requirements for ECFMG Certification include passing the Step 1 and 2 examinations of the three-step United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE ).

Job summary: Serve as Control Room Operator for USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) administrations. Responsible for the daily recording of USMLE Step 2 CS exam administrations utilizing AMX, cameras, and associated Control Room equipment. Clearly documents incident reports during the administration of the USMLE Step 2 CS exam as necessary. Cross-trains as Proctor for USMLE Step 2 CS administrations. Must be available to work day, evening, and weekend shifts.

Physical demand:

  • Working hands-on with audiovisual equipment in the Control Room
  • Sitting while viewing live video monitors
  • Standing while cross-training as Proctor

The SKILLS/ABILITIES for this position include:           

    • Able to watch video monitors and change camera positions simultaneously
    • Ability to problem solve quickly in a technical manner
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Windows; Word and Excel
    • Ability to learn other in house software specific to the job
    • Able to work well autonomously
    • Ability to operate calmly in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
    • Detail-oriented
    • Good judgment and professional discretion required
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Excellent verbal communication skills

Essential Job Functions:

  • Must be comfortable with and willing to work in an enclosed environment with fluctuating temperatures.
  • Must be able to remain in a seated, stationary position for over 50% of the exam shift.
  • Must be able to work in collaboration with exam operations staff.
  • Must assist in monitoring and tracking performance of SPs during the exam session.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and/or difficult exam situations in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Must be able to operate and communicate verbally via multiple telephone systems (sometimes simultaneously), including Aiphones, IP Phones, and mobile phones.
  • Must be able to see with or without glasses and hear with or without aid.
  • Must have basic to intermediate computer skills including ability to use a keyboard, monitor and mouse, and the ability to navigate through multiple windows
  • Must be able to learn and correctly use internal software programs and comply with documentation standards for incident reports.
  • Must be available to work days, evenings and weekends as required for the exam.
