ECFMG is seeking a Director, Strategic Initiatives in the Philadelphia, PA office. The Director, Strategic Initiatives is responsible for leading program and project teams and managing all activities in a project life-cycle (initiation planning, executing/controlling, and closing) associated with projects that are long-term, line of business-wide, medium to high in risk, scope, complexity. Serve as a role model to the organization in projecting an enterprise wide viewpoint.  This position focuses on the development of new programs and enhancements to existing programs (collectively, "initiatives"). The position works closely with ECFMG and FAIMER staff to facilitate the conceptualization, development, and implementation of approved initiatives.  For all initiatives, the position serves as the point person responsible for shepherding projects forward to resolution.  To accomplish these goals, the position works across all ECFMG and FAIMER programs and departments and serves as a point of contact for all ECFMG and FAIMER staff members involved in the development of initiatives.

SKILLS:

DUTIES:

  • Partners directly with the initiatives owners to establish strategic plans and objectives for programs or initiatives for senior leadership and major stakeholders.
  • Coordinates large, high-risk, complex initiatives and manages activities that span across multiple platforms or organizational entities for long-term, strategic initiatives.
  • Consults with business partners to clarify and define complex initiative requirements, budgets and business cases, including statements of work.
  • Creates and delivers presentations on program or initiative goals and plans, including progress reports. Actively advocates and works with business leaders to help drive growth and efficiencies.
  • Understands complex problems; identifies and resolves issues and risks.
  • Communicates across multiple business lines, technology, external vendors, and internal senior management.
  • Creates a core, common and consistent approach and delivery for strategic initiatives.
  • Leads cross functional/virtual teams to strategize, plan and execute a variety of programs, services and initiatives that are larger in scope and complexity (examples might include, but are not limited to: finance operational / executive management review coordination, change management initiatives, or general program oversight).
  • Provides leadership to other consultants and analysts in the integration/implementation of programs/services/initiatives with cross functional business partners, recognizing the significance of competing priorities and strategies, and adjusting as necessary.
  • Develops and assists in implementing business requirements as well as leading and facilitating cross-functional, crossline of business teams.
  • Prepares communication strategy and materials to socialize and gain buy-in of related business plans to management.
  • Strong communication skills (written, oral, and in giving presentations) are key. The ability to provide program reporting as it relates to key business owners' needs.
  • The ability to roadmap projects in support of a portfolio or strategic plan. Drive regular reviews of the roadmap with business management.
  • Influencing and negotiating with initiative managers and senior management as needed. Relationship management with key business and technology partners.
  • Conducting analysis and partnering with Finance to develop reports on budget/forecasting and financials related to the strategic programs or initiatives.
  • Monitors activity within the medical education and related communities to identify areas of exploration, ideas for new programs/services, and opportunities for collaboration for ECFMG and FAIMER. Partners with appropriate ECFMG and FAIMER staff to develop proposals for related initiatives.
  • Partners with appropriate FAIMER and ECFMG staff to develop proposals for related initiatives.
  • For approved initiatives, collaborates with program manager and other stakeholders to assemble interdepartmental project teams and ensure that all relevant and potentially relevant departments/programs are represented. Serves as a member of interdepartmental project teams from project inception, guiding the release of initiatives through to implementation.
  • Conducts a preliminary assessment of initiatives' impact on existing policy and operations.
  • Regularly disseminates information about status of initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Collaborates with internal and external users of ECFMG programs/services to identify program needs and maximize user experience.
  • Assists as a reviewer of all communications materials associated with approved initiatives.
  • Provides Executive Vice President with regular written updates, including information on ideas and proposals for new initiatives, status of initiatives, timeframes, action items, outstandings, critical junctures, obstacles, contingencies, and activities of the Initiatives program. Provides for Executive Vice President's review drafts of documents intended to inform executive staff of project status and to facilitate their evaluation and prioritization of initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Seven to 10 years progressive experience in professional project management roles, including experience in conceiving and operationalizing new programs.
  • Experience with strategic planning and interacting with internal decision makers/subject matter experts and key external partners.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
