ECFMG is seeking a Media and External Affairs Manager in the Philadelphia, PA office. This position functions to raise awareness of the organization, its mission, contributions, and expertise among the media and other external stakeholders, including professional organizations and the public. The position also develops and distributes internal and external resources that support relationships with these key audiences. In collaboration with staff from across the organization, this role develops and executes public relations campaigns to position the organization as an international thought leader and provider of services that improve the health of populations worldwide. The position proactively cultivates media relationships, pursues earned media placements, and serves as a primary media contact.

DUTIES:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local and national media with the goal of obtaining earned media placements and raising awareness of ECFMG, FAIMER, and their roles.
  • Anticipate and engage proactively with current news developments and issues.
  • Serve as a primary media contact. Receive and respond to media inquiries on behalf of ECFMG and, as needed, FAIMER.
  • Direct members of the media to executives and other internal experts for interviews, commentary, and data.
  • Draft effective press releases and position statements.
  • Research and draft talking points and other executive briefing documents for routine and breaking situations.
  • Monitor media coverage of ECFMG, FAIMER, and relevant issues. Produce and distribute annotated summaries of media coverage for ELT, SLT, and board members.
  • Maintain contacts in ACT! and/or Cision databases for members of the media and media relations staff at other organizations.
  • Develop distribution lists for press releases and thought leadership pieces using ACT!, PRNewswire, Cision Media Database, rented mailing lists, and other sources.
  • Distribute approved press releases and thought leadership pieces using PRNewswire, e-mail, newsletters, social media, and other channels.
  • Provide regular updates to ECFMG and FAIMER staff and executives regarding planned information releases.
  • Serve as point of contact for press releases sent to ECFMG. Distribute external press releases within ECFMG and FAIMER.
  • Liaise with media relations staff of external organizations to coordinate release of ECFMG/joint information.
  • Coordinate with internal and external event staff to raise exposure of ECFMG and FAIMER participation at domestic and international conferences.
  • Receive and respond to routine data requests. Forward non-routine requests to Internal Research and Data Review Committee for evaluation.
  • Collaborate with staff of ECFMG, FAIMER, and agency partner to develop and implement public relations campaigns to support strategic initiatives.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five to seven years of professional experience in a lead media relations role with proactive media outreach. Prior experience with top-tier and Philadelphia-regional media and established media relationships preferred.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience writing for external stakeholders, preferably in a non-profit, healthcare, or educational environment.
  • Experience framing complex and sensitive issues.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategies and plans for communications or public relations.
  • Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: branding, government relations, development/fundraising.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
