ECFMG is seeking a Bilingual Certification Specialist (Mandarin preferred) in the Philadelphia, PA office.

The primary responsibility of the Bilingual Certification Specialist is to perform activities in support of ECFMG's Program of Certification, including reviewing and evaluating a large volume of medical credentials, processing requests for account establishment, managing applicant identity, and processing requests for USMLE related services, including examination registration. The Bilingual Certification Specialist will assist the Certification and Examination Support Services Department along with other departments with translations and communications in a language other than English, including contact with medical school and other institution officials. The Bilingual Certification Specialist will occasionally communicate with applicants and medical schools. 


Ensures the Provision of Excellent Service

  • Provides exemplary customer service to ECFMG Certification applicants and maintains an applicant-centered approach in all activities.
  • Processes work in assigned queues and ensures that work is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicates with applicants and representatives of institutions with which ECFMG is conducting verifications in a professional and clear manner.
  • Translates credentials and written communication to English, as needed.
  • Translates documents and written communication from English, as needed.

Contributes to an Efficient and Effective Operational Unit by completing work in some, or all, of the following:

  • Through an intensive review process of application materials submitted by applicants, determines eligibility of individuals for ECFMG Certification and for USMLE registration. This process includes:
    • The prima facie review of credentials using ECFMG's Medical Education Reference Library to determine if the medical credential submitted meets ECFMG requirements (e.g. degree title eligibility, medical school eligibility)
    • A working knowledge of ECFMG Certification (e.g. ECFMG Policy on Transfer Credits) and USMLE policies and appropriate application of these policies;
    • The comprehensive review of identify forms and forms containing enrollment status of students and graduates, including the re-verification of student enrollment when required
    • Issuance of ECFMG Certificates
  • Determines acceptability of English translations submitted to ensure that they meet ECFMG's translation requirements.
  • Prepares and sends credentials to medical school/institution officials for verification. Ensures that all required information is included in the verification request; this may include research to identify appropriate officials and/or delivery address.
  • Upon review of appropriate documentation and in accordance with ECFMG's requirements, processes applicants' requests to change biographic information on their ECFMG accounts
  • Processes requests from applicants for USMLE transcripts, USMLE Score Re-Checks and ECFMG Exam and CSA History Charts
  • Assists in training and coaching of temporary and permanent staff.

  • Spoken and written fluency in a language other than English required, Mandarin/Chinese preferred; proficiency in other languages helpful.


  • Two years professional experience in the processing of large volumes of educational credentials or similar documents, preferably in college/university or other educational/research institution.
  • Proven verbal and written communications skills required.
  • Fluency in English required. Spoken and written fluency in a language other than English preferred (Mandarin, Russian, Farsi, Arabic). 


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required.
